Run, Dave, Run

This morning, the family went to Wake Forest to cheer on Dave in a 5k.  It was so hot and humid outside, but Jack and I were happy to cheer on our favorite man.  Jack wanted to get out and run around so we found a little playground for him to play on before the race started.  We were still able to see Dave run past us a few times and then we saw him at the finish line.  Jack really likes cheering at races because he gets to help his daddy eat his post-race banana.  This time, I think Jack at 2 whole bananas.  Come to think about it, Jack really likes it when his daddy does any exercise because he gets to share in the post workout snacks.  His favorite is a good smoothie after a hard workout (Dave's not Jack's)

Here comes Dave down the hill from the starting line

Jack enjoyed some swinging while we waited for Dave to loop back around

Heading up the hill to the finish

Good strong finish!

Maybe Jack will be a physical therapist?

18 Months

One and a half years!  Wow!

Jack had his 18 month check-up this morning and the doctor was very pleased with how much Jack has grown.  The doctor said that most babies at this age don't like the doctor and fuss a lot, but our sweet Jack showed that doctor a thing or two.  He smiled and giggled throughout the whole appointment.  He made good eye contact with the doctor and was more than willing to cooperate.  Jack didn't even cry when he got a vaccination!  Our boy is certainly growing up!

His current stats are:

Weight:  25 pounds, 9 ounces (50th percentile)
Height:  32 inches (50th percentile)
Head:  46.5 centimeters (25th percentile)

This month, Jack:

  • is wearing mostly 18 month clothes
  • wears size 4.5 or 5 shoes
  • wears size 4 diapers during the day and size 5 overnight diapers
  • went through a bit of a food rebellion, but is back on track eating everything
  • runs, falls, climbs, crawls through tunnels, never stops going
  • sleeps between 11 and 12.5 hours a night
  • takes one nap a day (anywhere from 1.5 hours to 3.5 hours)
  • is a complete fish in the pool
  • hates taking baths-much prefers showers (like his mommy)
  • loves to just walk up and give you a hug
  • will grab you by both sides of your face and pull you in for a kiss
  • has finally started pointing with just one finger (he was pointing like Vanna White)
  • can finally get on and use his ride on toys (his feet didn't touch the ground a few weeks ago)
  • likes to play independently
  • scribbles on paper whenever he sees a pen and paper
  • is still interested in pottying
  • tells everyone "good girl" when they do something good
  • yells "go" if things aren't moving quickly enough for him
  • enjoys helping around the house
  • will grab our finger and take us where he wants us to be
  • can point out several body parts and does so without being asked
  • continues to impress us with his receptive language skills.
Jack may be average in size (finally), but we think he's pretty extraordinary in the personality department!

Puppy Love

Jack has always loved his dogs, but lately he can't seem to get enough hugs from them.

I must say, both dogs tolerate Jack's lovin' more than I ever expected them to.

Diamond Jubilee

Yesterday was the River Thames Diamond Jubilee Pageant in London.  BBC America was showing coverage of the event and Jack and I decided to watch while Dave soaked in the bath after his half-marathon.  Jack was absolutely enthralled with all the boats and music.  I think this was a good preview of some of the sites we will see in a couple months when we head over to England.

Run Daddy Run!

Dave at mile 10.4

Dave ran another half-marathon this morning and Jack and I headed out to cheer him on.  We were able to see him at a couple spots on the course as well as at the finish line.  Jack really enjoyed cheering for his daddy (and anyone else that ran by) and I'm always a fan of supporting the ones I love.  I honestly don't understand people that say they can't go cheer on their spouse or significant other.  They have clearly trained hard and deserve all the support they can get.  If I can get out there with my child and cheer...anybody can!

One of Jack's favorite things about Dave running is that he gets to wear the medal after Daddy finishes.

Lions and Tigers and Bears...Oh My!

Okay, well, no tigers or bears...but we did see lions at the zoo.  Tuesday morning, the Mulleys packed up early and headed for the North Carolina Zoo in Asheboro.

Conserving all energy for the zoo

Playing coy

"Mom!  Stop singing!!!"

I don't think we could have picked a better day for the zoo!  Once we made it to the zoo, we started our journey in Africa.  We hardly saw any people while in Africa-maybe an occasional family but that was about it.  Although the people watching was lacking, the animals were all out and about.

Chimpanze

Jack rode an eagle on the carousel

then he rode a gorilla
There wasn't as much to take pictures of in North America and I was too lazy to take out the camera and try to get pictures.  Jack enjoyed the puffins, the otters and the seals the best.  There were several school groups in North America, but not so many that we couldn't still fully enjoy out time.

While Jack is still a little too young to fully appreciate the zoo, he still had a great time (as did we).  We had to point out most of the animals to him and as soon as the animal would move, he would start to point and giggle.  We look forward to taking Jack back again!
